John Lange grew up in Ridge, NY where he won 3 State Wrestling Titles for Longwood High School (the same as Kerry McCoy). He continued his wrestling career by following McCoy to Penn State University. John was a 4 year starter and 3x NCAA Qualifier for Penn State. During his college career he won an Espoir National (Under 20) Freestyle title, the 1998 Big Ten Championship and finished as an All-American with a 3rd place finish at 158lbs in 1998. After graduating in 1998 with a degree in history John went on to coach at Hofstra University on Long Island, NY. After spending a year at Hofstra John moved on to coach at The University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill for the 1999-2000 season. From there John moved to Michigan and began coaching at Eastern Michigan University, spending 5 seasons as the Head Assistant and then the 2005-2006 season as the Interim Head Coach. During his college coaching career John coached 17 NCAA Qualifiers and 9 Conference Champions. Also active in the Freestyle circuit he helped coach numerous Cadet and Junior National teams.
In June of 2006 John relocated to Pleasanton, CA with his wife
Rachel to pursue an opportunity in private business. John opened
up Suffolk Benefits & Insurance Services, LLC, a small business
employee benefits firm. Not wanting to give up wrestling he has
helped with both Foothill and Amador Valley High Schools in Pleasanton
as well as the Pleasanton Amateur Wrestling Club. John joined the
Advanced Training Wrestling Club in the fall of 2006 working the
occasional Sunday practice at Stanford and running the Monday Pleasanton
site.
